Hungani Ndlovu (born 19 June 1994) is a South African actor, dancer and DJ. He is best known for his former role of Romeo Medupe on e.tv drama series Scandal!.

Early Life and International Training

Hungani Malcolm Ndlovu was born on 19 June 1994 in Nelspruit (Mbombela), Mpumalanga, South Africa. He was raised in Nelspruit in Tsonga family of four. Hungani wanted to study civil engineering but later realized that he was called to be an actor and dancer in grade 11. This made him to start slacking on his school work because his main focus was now on his arts classes.

Despite all this, he managed to pass his matric. Immediately after obtaining his matric, he moved to the United States, Los Angeles at the age of 18 to pursue acting studies. In an interview with Actor Spaces, Hungani said he had a terrible experience at the acting academy in Los Angeles and refrained to tell the name of the academy.

After that, Hungani attended dance classes for three months at Flii Academy which is run by Chris Brown’s choreographers. He also attended a lot of drop in acting classes. Which he said inspired him to start SANS Group, because he noticed most people don’t have time and money to attend such expensive big institutions.

Acting Career of Hungani Ndlovu

Hungani started acted for free in theatres and short drama to gain exposure. Some of the theatre productions where he acted on was A Night with Sam and A Raisin in the Sun. His first lead role was in 2014 short film Memoir of an Honest Voice, which was nominated for Best Short Film at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2015.

In 2016, Hungani became a house hold name when he starred on etv soapie drama series Scandal! as Romeo Medupe. The character was a flamboyant, smooth-talking and brilliant rebellious kid who used his charm and sharp mind to outsmart enemies. He played this character until late 2020 when he left to persue other ventures.

While still on Scandal, Hungani had other roles including in a short film, Because You’re Black (2016) and Mzansi Magic television movie Sipho (2018). In 2020 he had role in the horror film The Hex and had a lead role in in the short film Ring of Beasts (2021). He then landed his first lead starring role in SABC1 comedy-drama series uBettina Wethu as Duma.

In July 2023 he landed another starring role as Tbose Maputla in the SABC1 soapie Skeem Saam, replacing Cornet Mamabolo. In 2024 he landed his first reality television role on Tropika Island of Treasure as a celebrity contestant. His team mate was Dimakatso Calisa, a University of Pretoria student at the time.

Business Ventures and Philanthropy

In 2015 Hungani Ndlovu founded SANS Group or Strong Attitudes Nurture Success Group which was later renamed to Actors Playground, a studio aimed at bridging the gap for actors and dancers struggling to enter the local industry. In 2018 he founded Hungani Ndlovu Foundation, an organisation which focuses on youth development and mental health. He also plays a significant role in NGO MatrixMen, which supports male victims of abuse.

Personal Life of Hungani Ndlovu

Hungani Ndlovu married Stephanie Sandows in 2019. The two divorced in 2025 after 6 years in marriage. By the time of divorce, Hungani and Stephanie Sandows had a child together and had a Youtube channel called The Ndlovu Uncut, where they documented their everyday life. The channel had hundreds of thousands of followers and was left in Stephanie’s hands after divorce.
