Early Life of MaKhumalo

Thobile MaKhumalo Mseleku was born on 21 February 1989 in a rural village of KwaMadlala. She grew up in KwaZulu-Natal in KwaMadlala. She was brought up in poor household as she clear stated in one interview. However she was raised in a family built on faith, respect and humility to become a woman of respect and dignity.

After finishing her high school, she obtained a degree in Communication Studies. Her studies helped shape her career in broadcasting and motivational speaking.

Career of MaKhumalo Mseleku

Thobile MaKhumalo Mseleku started her career in radio broadcasting after tertiary. She worked at Ukhozi FM and later at Vuma FM. Her work as a presenter and speaker earned her a loyal audience. She also became known as a motivational speaker and event MC.

Her rise to national fame came through reality television shows. She became a main cast member of the Uthando Nes’thembu on Mzansi Magic. She has appeared ever since its inception in 2017, and in 2025 she became co-executive producer for the series. The show follows the life of Musa Mseleku and his wives in a polygamous marriage.

In February 2022 she announced via X (formerly Twitter) that she will be joining Showmax series The Real Housewives of Durban. On this show she appeared as herself not as wife number 3 of polygamy.

Personal Life

In 2009, Thobile MaKhumalo Mseleku became the third wife of Musa Mseleku. She said in an interview with Engineer Your Life podcaster, that when she joined the polygamy, some people in the marriage were not happy but she doesn’t know why.

MaKhumalo doesn’t stay in her home around Musa Mseleku compound, however she has her own house in Durban. She chose to stay in Durban because thats where she works as a radio personality. She only comes to Uzumbe, at Musa Mseleku’s home sometimes to visit.

MaKhumalo does not have biological children of her own. However, she has raised Musa Mseleku’s daughter, Mpilonhle Mseleku, as her own child.

Her fertility struggles have often been discussed publicly. Reports of miscarriages and challenges with conception have been shared on television and in interviews. Different views about the situation have also been expressed by family members and Musa Mseleku.

In one of the interviews published by Daily Sun, Musa Mseleku had to clarify that MaKhumalo is no infertile, she only struggles with conception. He added that the reason behind is; someone from her family denied the gift of being a sangoma and passed it to Makhumalo. She won’t have children of her own if she doesn’t accept the gift.

“In MaKhumalo’s family, there was a person who refused to accept the ancestral calling, and that person passed the calling on to MaKhumalo. I have found out that the calling had been transferred to her by someone in her family. That gift was to heal people. Now, how does this gift interfere with having children? The gift will always interfere with your happiness if it is not fulfilled.” Said Mus Mseleku.
