Hungani Ndlovu (Born 19 June 1994) is a prominent South African actor, professional dancer, and DJ. Born on 19 June 1994 in Mpumalanga, he is of Tsonga descent and was raised in Bushbuckridge. He is best known for his breakout role as Romeo Medupe on the e.tv soapie Scandal! and for portraying Tbose Maputla on SABC 1’s Skeem Saam. He is 31 years old in 2026.

Early Life and International Training

Hungani Malcolm Ndlovu was born on 19 June 1994, in Mpumalanga, South Africa to Tsonga parents. He discovered his passion for the performing arts at the age of seven, drawing early inspiration from global pop icon Michael Jackson.

After completing matric at 18, he moved to the United States to pursue formal training in both dance and acting. He spent three years in Los Angeles and New York, training at the Flii’Cademy under acclaimed choreographers such as Ian Eastwood, Parris Goebel, and FliiStylz. [1]

In addition, he earned an Associate Degree in Acting for Film from the New York Film Academy. Before rising to television fame, he built experience through commercial work for brands like Dettol, Debonairs Pizza, and Virgin Money Insurance. [2]

Beyond television, he made his film debut in Memoir of an Honest Voice (2014), a short film that earned a nomination at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. He later appeared in the horror film The Hex (2020) and featured as the lead in Black Coffee’s Wish You Were Here music video.

In reality television, Hungani and his partner Dimakatso Calisa won Season 11 of Tropika Island of Treasure in 2024.

Hungani married actress and television presenter Stephanie Sandows after the two met on the set of Scandal!. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony on 23 February 2019.

They share a daughter, Rhulani Iyana, born in August 2022. In June 2025, the couple publicly announced their separation after six years of marriage, while maintaining a respectful co-parenting relationship. [4]

Beyond his personal life, Hungani is also an advocate for social causes. As a survivor of domestic abuse, he serves as a director at Matrixmen, an organisation dedicated to supporting male victims of abuse.


Business and Philanthropy

Hungani Ndlovu is deeply committed to developing the next generation of creative talent.

He founded SANS Group (Strong Attitudes Nurture Success), an artist development studio and agency that nurtures emerging performers. He also established The Ndlovu Foundation, a non-profit organisation focused on youth empowerment through drama and dance. [5]
