Putla Sehlapelo (born 3 March 1979) is a South African actor. He is best known for his long-running role as Deputy Principal Alfred Magongwa on the SABC1 soap opera Skeem Saam.

Early Life and Education

Putla Sehlapelo was born on 3 March 1979 in Polokwane, Limpopo, South Africa. He grew up alongside five siblings in Polokwane, Limpopo. His parents were Christians, who shaped his grounded and disciplined character. From an early age, he developed an interest in the arts.

One of his memorable moments during childhood was when his parents prepares food with cheese. He loved it and it would light up his entuire day. After obtaining his basic education and matric, Putla Sehlapelo enrolled at the University of Pretoria, where he studied drama. He graduated with Bachelor’s Degree Dramatic Arts.

Acting Career of Putla Sehlapelo

Putla Sehlapelo had his first role in television in 2003 when he had a guest role as Spike in the soap opera Generations. The same year, he played another role in the film Le Lion. After building some reputation, Putla then appeared in drama series David (2006) as a security guard.

In early 2008 he played Hospital Doctor 1 in the mini-series Noah’s Ark (2008). The very same year Putla Sehlapelo had his breakthrough role when he played Maloro Lerothodi in the SABC1 mini-series Death of a Queen. In 2010 he appeared in drama Intersexions. From 2011 to 2012, he appeared as a BEE millionaire Tiro Lebone in the M-Net soap opera The Wild. 

However, Putla Sehlapelo became household name when bagged a role on Skeem Saam as manipulative teacher (now deputy principal) Alfred Magongwa. In addition, he has build a long resume in acting by appearing in several dramas including Thola (as Steve Kefentse), Society, The Lab and Soul Buddyz.

With consistent work for over 25 years in the acting  industry, Putla has earned himself recognition. This include SAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a TV soap opera. In 2016 he won Best Actor Award at Second Annual FAME Awards which was held in Polokwane, Limpopo. In 2022 he was nominated for SAFTA Golden Horn in the Best Actor – TV Soap for his role on Skeem Saam.

Personal Life of Putla Sehlapelo

Putla Sehlapelo is married to Neo Sehlapelo. According to reports, the two tied the knot around 2014 or 2015. Together, they have three children, two sons and one daughter.

He devoted husband and father raising his children with love. When he comes back to work, his children hide from him playfully in hide and seek, which he said put a smile on his face.

In 2022 he was spotted talking to his eldest son in what appeared like a serious father to son impart-ful conversation.
