Marshall Munetsi (born 22 June 1996) is a Zimbabwean professional footballer. He plays as a defensive or central midfielder. He is well known as the vice captain of the Zimbabwe national football team (the Warriors). Munetsi currently plays for Paris FC on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Early Life and Youth Career
Marshall Nyasha Munetsi was born in the capital city of Zimbabwe in Harare, on 22 June 1996. He grew up in the Mabvuku suburb in a working-class family. His father worked as a police officer and played a major role in instilling discipline and strong values in him from a young age. He had difficult childhood growing up since his father earned little wages from public servant job.
Munetsi started playing football at around the age of 10 with Ali Sundowns, a local youth club in Mabvuku. According to Ali Sundowns owner, Desmond Ali, Munetsi had good support from his father who saw the talent in him. After three years playing for Ali Sundowns, Munetsi was selected to play for his provincial representative side at under-14s level.
Then four years later, Munetsi was selected again to play for Zimbabwe’s under-17s. His reputation grew among sport promoters in the country and he joined Friendly Academy. His next move would be to join another Harare club, Blue Rangers, who were in the country’s second tier.
Club Career

Marshall Munetsi moved to Cape Town, South Africa in 2015 after he was spotted and signed by Ubuntu Cape Town FC in Harare. He was likened to Yaya Touré for his big, strong, mobile style and good passing. He made his professional debut in September 2015 and scored his first goal in April 2016.
While playing for Ubuntu Cape Town FC, he was spotted by Orlando Pirates, one of South Africa’s biggest teams. He joined Orlando Pirates in 2016, however the new coach who replaced coach Eric Tinkler didn’t have plans for him. Therefore, Munetsi was loaned to Baroka FC. According to his mentor, Desmond Ali, Munetsi played very well on loan under Baroka, and Orlando Pirates took him back. He made around 28 league appearances for Pirates with limited goals but gained valuable top-flight experience.
“He played so well at Baroka that Orlando Pirates called him back. He played well there and he was signed by Reims in France.” Said Ali.
Playing in Europe
During his time in Orlando Pirates, Marshall Munetsi played well as centre-back and well in midfield. As a result, he catched the attention of Stade de Reims, who signed him ahead of the 2019-20 campaign. He was signed on a four-year deal under the French Ligue 1 club. He became a key player, known for his physicality, duels, and box-to-box contributions. In just six seasons, he made 148 league appearances and scored 21 goals.
The director of Reims, general Mathieu Lacour described him as “part of a logic of the future”.
In February 2025, Munetsi joined Wolves in the Premier League on a three-and-a-half-year contract. He made his debut, shortly after he scored his first goal for the club in March 2025. He has contributed goals and appearances in the Premier League.
Upon joining Wolves, Munetsi was so excited and grateful.
“I’m very excited. It’s probably going to be the first time I’ve had a big opportunity to be representing a bigger club. Nothing against Reims, but now you’re going to be playing in the Premier League, playing for Wolves., ” said Munetsi to IOL.
In January 2026, he moved on loan to Ligue 1 side Paris FC for the remainder of the season, where he has continued to score.
International Career
Munetsi made his senior debut for the Zimbabwe national football team in 2018. Since then, he has earned more than 35 caps and scored multiple international goals. He played an important role in Zimbabwe’s victory at the 2018 COSAFA Cup and has represented the country in AFCON qualifiers and other international competitions. When he joined Wolves in 2025, he became vice captain of the Warriors.
In 2025 Munetsi together with Khama were not included in the Zimbabwe’s national team during the 2025 AFCON. The reasons for their omisions differ. Khama asked not to be included while Munetsi was omitted due to an injury. However, Munetsi was not happy, citing that there was no follow up if he had fully recovered to play or not.
“This one hurts, as representing the Warriors has always been a dream, and wearing our colours is the greatest honour of my career. AFCON would have even been more significant,…Unfortunately, I received no follow-up communication, and decisions were made without clarity” said Marshall Munetsi.
Playing Style
Standing at 1.88 metres tall, Munetsi is known for his strength, athleticism, and ability to dominate midfield battles. He is effective both defensively and offensively, capable of breaking up play, carrying the ball forward, and contributing goals.
His playing style combines physical intensity with technical discipline, making him valuable in both defensive and box-to-box midfield roles.
Personal Life

Marshall Munetsi is married to Anotida Makove, also known in some social media posts as Anotida Carol. The couple reportedly dated for several years before Munetsi paid lobola in September 2022. They later married in a private ceremony. They have children together, and Munetsi frequently shares moments with his family on social media. He often describes his wife and children as a major source of motivation and support.
Relationship to Moreboys Munetsi
Marshall Munetsi is related to Zimbabwean entrepreneur and lawyer Moreboys Munetsi, founder of GreatHope Group. Most people commonly describe the them as cousins.
Moreboys has publicly supported Marshall throughout his football career. He occasionally commented on his national team commitments and professional development. When he was excluded from the national team in 2025 AFCON Warriors team, Moreboys urged the him to quit international football.
“It’s time for Munetsi to consider international retirement from the national team. He should use his remaining years to focus on his club,” said Moreboys Munetsi on his Facebook post.
Philanthropy and Community Work
Beyond football, Munetsi is actively involved in charity work through his foundation, Marshall Munetsi Foundation., He focuses on helping underprivileged children in Zimbabwe gain access to education and opportunities. In 2020, the Marshall Munetsi foundation paid school fees for 60 children. The 60 children comprised of 30 children for Mabvuku Primary and 30 more for Donnybrook Primary.
“It [the Marshall Munetsi Foundation] keeps reminding me of the job that still needs to be done…especially for my fellow brothers and sisters, the young ones who are coming up.” said Marshall Munetsi in an interview with Africa ESPN.
“Marshall is a big influence. He gives back to the community big time. He’s a guy that we’re so proud of and he has not forgotten his roots.” said Ali Desmond.
He has spoken publicly about the importance of giving back to communities and credits his upbringing for shaping his values around discipline, humility, and service.
