Marshall Munetsi (born 22 June 1996) is a Zimbabwean professional footballer who plays as a defensive or central midfielder. He currently plays for Paris FC on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers and serves as captain of the Zimbabwe national football team, popularly known as the Warriors.

Early Life and Youth Career
Marshall Nyasha Munetsi was born in Harare, Zimbabwe, and grew up in the Mabvuku suburb in a working-class family. His father worked as a police officer and played a major role in instilling discipline and strong values in him from a young age. [1][2]
Munetsi began playing football seriously at around the age of 10 with Ali Sundowns, a local youth club. He later joined Friendly Academy before moving to Blue Rangers, formerly known as Blue Ribbon Stars, a second-tier Zimbabwean football club.
His performances at youth level earned him recognition in provincial football structures and eventually led to selection for Zimbabwe’s U-17 teams. [2]
Club Career

South Africa (2015–2019): Munetsi moved to South Africa in 2015, signing with National First Division side Ubuntu Cape Town. He was compared to Yaya Touré for his big, strong, mobile style and good passing. He made his professional debut in September 2015 and scored his first goal in April 2016. [3]
He had a loan spell at Baroka FC (2016–2017), where he played in the Premiership, then joined Orlando Pirates (one of South Africa’s biggest clubs) in 2017. He made around 28 league appearances for Pirates with limited goals but gained valuable top-flight experience.

Reims (2019–2025): In June 2019, he transferred to French Ligue 1 club Stade de Reims on a four-year deal. He became a key player, known for his physicality, duels, and box-to-box contributions. Over six seasons, he made 148 league appearances and scored 21 goals, with strong performances in multiple campaigns (e.g., multiple goals per season in later years). He was a runner-up in the 2024–25 Coupe de France. [4]

Wolverhampton Wanderers (2025–present): In February 2025, Munetsi joined Wolves in the Premier League on a three-and-a-half-year contract. He made his debut shortly after and scored his first goal for the club in March 2025. He has contributed goals and appearances in the Premier League. [3]

International Career
Munetsi made his senior debut for the Zimbabwe national football team in 2018. Since then, he has earned more than 35 caps and scored multiple international goals.
He played an important role in Zimbabwe’s victory at the 2018 COSAFA Cup and has represented the country in AFCON qualifiers and other international competitions. Over time, he became captain of the Warriors and one of the nation’s most respected football leaders. [6]

Marshall Munetsi is related to Zimbabwean entrepreneur and lawyer Moreboys Munetsi, founder of GreatHope Group. Sources commonly describe the pair as cousins, although they are also sometimes referred to more broadly as close relatives within family and cultural contexts.
Moreboys has publicly supported Marshall throughout his football career and has occasionally commented on his national team commitments and professional development. [9]
