uMafikizolo (born on 3 September 2000) is a South African Maskandi artist. He is best known for his hit song Uyoncengwa Unyoko, a hit break-up song about a rejected lover who refuses to beg for reconciliation.

Early Life and Background

uMafikizolo was born as Khethukuthula Mhlongo on 3 September 2000, in Mnambithi, KwaZulu Natal. Growing up, he dreamt of becoming a musician whose music will be played in radio stations nation wide. [1]

“When I was growing up, my biggest dream was to have one of my songs played on the radio and appearing on TV.” he said talking to Daily Sun publication.

Music Career of uMafikizolo

uMafikizolo’s music career and fame began unexpectedly in 2024 when he released his hit single Ngathi Nguye featuring Umashotana. There following year, he broke records when he released another single Uyoncengwa Unyoko. The song became a defiant break-up anthem with its message being “I’m not going to beg you, your mother will beg you”. By October 2025 the song had reached 16 million viewers on YouTube and over 14 millions streams on Sportify. That same year the song sparked TikTok dance challenge to further prove how prominent the song had become.

“Now my song is dominating radio waves and is played in many places and I’m grateful. It’s like I’m dreaming as I’m going to appear on TV all thanks to my hit song that has earned me recognition.” He said to Daily Sun.

Between 2025 and 2026 Uyoncengwa Unyoko was played frequently on radio such as on Ukhozi FM and Umhlobo Wenene. In December 2025 Fikile Mbalula, ANC Secretary General included the song on his top 10 songs of 2025. This made uMafikizolo the most spoken about musician.

uMafikizolo has other known songs including Inja Kabi Lena featuring Nomfundo Moh, Igoli, and various Maskandi hits. He sometimes performs solo and sometimes he performs with fellow musical artists. uMafikizolo also appeared on Amalanga Awafani, a telenovela about Maskandi music. He started shooting with its crew and cast on 17 October 2025.

He was nominated for awards such as Best Maskandi Album at the SAMA awards and Song of the Year 2025 categories on major radio stations. His song Uyoncengwa Unyoko won the highly contested “Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka” which means Song of the Year, on Ukhozi FM during the 2025/2026 New Year’s crossover.

In April 2026, he won the Song of the Year award at the Metro Music Awards. This was for his song hit Uyoncengwa Unyoko.
