Early Life and Family

Samkelo Zwane was born on 27 February 2002 in Johannesburg, the economic hub of South Africa. He was born to Eugene Zwane known formerly for his football career under Jomo Cosmos and Orlando Pirates. He developed interest in becoming a soccer player from young age since his took inspiration from his father.

Growing up under the guidance of his father gave Zwane proper foundation to eventually become a football player. Zwane has opened up about the expectations and pressure for him to become a better version of his father in the soccer field.

His career began when he was still very young, playing in the Gauteng Development League (GDL). He represented teams like Panorama FC and Black Aces before he joined the one of the biggest club under Kaizer Chiefs Youth Academy. Zwane then progressed through the club’s U17, U19, and Multichoice Diski Challenge structures.

Club Career

Kaizer Chiefs

While developing in Kaizer Chief’s under 19 (U19) and Multichoice Diski Challenges, he was added to senior setup for Kaizer Chiefs team during 2021/22 season. Because of a well articulated talent on the field and visionary midfielder, he established himself as a promising young soccer player for the club.

Despite all this, Zwane faced challenges such as not securing game time through different coaches. However he earned more opportunities under coach Nasreddine Nabi. By mid-2025 Zwane had appeared in Kaizer Chiefs senior games 30 times, assisting as a good midfielder but with limited goals. According to reports Zwane failed to deliver the kind of performance expected from him because of higher expectations since his promotion from juniors to seniors.

Siwelele FC (Loan)

In September 2025 Kaizer Chiefs announced that Samkelo Zwane and Happy Mashiane (of Kaizer Chiefs) were loaned to Siwelele FC in order to get more game time. This would improve their experience on the field in real time playing with and against senior teams. The loan would be for the remaining 2025/26 season. He gained first team experience during the Betway Premiereship.

“We wish both lads all the best for the rest of the season and look forward to welcoming them back to Naturena soon,” said the club via a statement accoding to Sunday World publication.

International Career

Samkelo Zwane has played for South Africa National Team, Bafana Bafana. His debut appearance on the field while playing for Bafana Bafana occurred in 2023 playing under South Africa under 23 (U23). He joined the senior South Africa’s national team when he was called up by Bafana Bafana for Africa Nations Champaignship in May 2025.
