Nirvana Nokwe-Mseleku (born July 17, 1996) is a South African trained actress, singer, songwriter, music producer, model, photographer, filmmaker, and entrepreneur. She is best known for playing the role of Sihle Biyela in the hit Showmax series Outlaws. She comes from a famous artistic family and has built a multifaceted career in entertainment while founding initiatives like The Connect Supper Club.

Early Life and Family
Nirvana Nokuthula Nokwe-Mseleku was born on 17 July 1996 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her family’s roots are in KwaMashu and Lamontville, Durban.
She is the daughter of legendary musician and actress Tu Nokwe who is known for roles like Pampatha in Shaka Zulu and jazz pianist Bheki Mseleku. She is the granddaughter of the late musician, actor, and model Alfred D Nokwe and Patty Masuku. Her aunt is Mango Groove backing vocalist Marilyn Nokwe.
She was the only child of her parents but the last of nine from her father’s children. She grew up loving arts, traveling and performing on stages worldwide including in Norway, Finland, and Mozambique. Nirvana spent time in studios from a very young age which shaped her career choice in adulthood.
Her family emphasized spirituality, yoga, meditation, vegetarianism, and open-minded philosophies. Her father passed away when she was 12, an event that has inspired unreleased songs.

Nirvana Nokwe-Mseleku attended St. James Preparatory School of Philosophy. She then obtained a Higher Certificate in Television and Screen Arts in 2015 from Academy of Television and Screen Arts. In 2017 Nirvana obtained another qualification, a diploma of Education, Screen Arts & Television from The Academy of Sound Engineering.
Career Beginnings
Nirvana entered the industry at an early age of 4 as a vocalist for ad jingles and movie soundtracks. She performed and collaborated with South African legends including Hugh Masekela, Busi Mhlongo, and others. Her aunt Marilyn helped manage her early voice-over and jingle work.
She later shifted focus to on-screen acting. She made her debut appearance in a short film The Manicurist as Sonia Mkhize. While she was still studying at Academy of Sound Engineering in 2015, she her first lead role when she played ‘Strange’ in the the BBC Family series show Quarx. The same year she had a featured role of Simone on the SABC1 soapie Generations: The Legacy.
Nirvana entered mainstream acting scene when she bagged a role of Mbali Msomi in Showmax crime TV series Reyka. The following year she played Pinky Dube in the Netflix thriller series Justice Served. She became a household name in mainstream acting industry in 2023, when she starred as Sihle Biyela in the Showmax Original Outlaws. Her other roles include appearing in Justice Served, Red Ink as Busi Mhlongo, and Umjolo series films.
She has also modeled, appeared in music videos such as A$AP Rocky’s mother in a Free Nationals track, and worked in theatre as a backup singer and dance.
Music and Other Work

Nirvana grew up in a home of artists and entered the music studios as early as the age of four. Her first songs were released in 2016 in an EP, The Travel Playlist. Her other known EP is EP Xhulu which include a song G63 which made waves on radios. She continued releasing songs including 2019 singles Sengyahamba and Eclipse (Bad Song)’. Her recent releases as of 2025 include Amapiano songs like single Nodoli.
She continues to produce and plan non-conventional releases. She is active as a creative director, photographer, and filmmaker. In 2018, she directed, wrote, and starred in the short film Sexgregation.
In 2023, she founded The Connect Supper Club, a networking and social initiative that brings together people of compatible values for intentional conversations, business, and social change.
Recent Developments
As of 2024–2026, she has been open about personal boundaries, values, and challenges in the industry. This is as result of allegations she has leveled against fellow actor Bonko Khoza. She accused him of sexual harassment and stated she has stepped away from acting as a result. Her reason for stepping away from acting is that; acting industry is not regulated and doesn’t value rights of women.
“I am never going back to acting. I will never put myself in a position where I am being told that my body is not mine. I am never going to put myself in an ecosystem that isn’t sustainable.” she said on Instagram video.
